We support those who play today atop the Kelp Forest at the Otter Soccer Complex while honoring those who served before on the old Fort Ord army base.
We support all teams who play soccer, rugby or lacrosse at Cal State Monterey Bay.
We honor the history of Fort Ord, established in 1917.
We are the keepers of the official chants and provide the capos to lead them during games.
We hold annual fundraisers (ex. supporter's scarf) in support of those teams.
We are fans of and support Blue Crue, the student-run booster club for Otter Athletics.
We are inspired by the Portland Pilots Villa Drum Squad, American Outlaws and Timbers Army.
Many local residents will tell you the only part of the old Fort Ord they ever saw before the base closed in 1994 was the main gate on Lightfighter Drive, with the 7th Infantry logo on the far right.
Our logo is a mash-up of and homage to the old 7th Infantry logo and the original logo & colors of CSUMB, which changed to blue and gold in 2007.
The 7th Infantry logo.
The original logo from 1994.
Our logo.
The original Fort Ord Alumni Association home page graphic was designed by Steve Zmak. It incorporated the official CSUMB logo, which was first designed by Sasaki Associates, Inc. (the architectural firm that helped draft the first CSUMB Master Plan in 1996) and later revised by Zmak when he worked as the university's first graphic design coordinator.
On Saturday, April 20, we hosted a screening of the documentary Pelada that included a Q&A with the filmmakers.
If you missed the film check out the DVD at the CSUMB Library, thanks to the 1917 Otters.
Many thanks to the filmmakers Luke Boughen and Gwendolyn Oxenham, author of "Finding The Game: Three Years, Twenty-five Countries, and the Search for Pickup Soccer."
The day prior to our screening, Gwendolyn had an article published online in Sports Illustrated titled, "Pickup soccer connects the generations of American players, too."
Presented by Otter Athletics, CSUMB Soccer, CSUMB International Programs & the 1917 Otters.
